Hollywood Blacklist

Bluewater Studio, in partnership with Jewish Museum Milwaukee and Crux Creative, designed and produced Blacklist: The Hollywood Red Scare, a compelling traveling exhibition.

The exhibit explores a pivotal chapter in American history, when fear of Communism led to widespread abuses of First Amendment rights.

Through original film clips, government documents, personal ephemera, and dramatic congressional testimony from some of Hollywood’s most prominent figures, visitors gain insight into how careers were destroyed, rights were ignored, and the motion picture industry resorted to self-censorship.

By immersing audiences in the climate of suspicion and control that defined the era, the exhibition raises important questions about democracy, free expression, and the lasting impact of the Hollywood blacklist.

“After three years in the making, Jewish Museum Milwaukee is looking forward to finally sharing this exhibit with the public. Blacklist offers a fascinating look into a fearful time in our country’s history and provides the opportunity for visitors to compare ways history continues to repeat itself.” – Ellie Gettinger – JMM Education Director and Curator for the Blacklist Exhibit
